HeatShield Chimney Liner & Rebuild Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Liner & Rebuild in Santa Clara: What to Know First

We provide independent HeatShield chimney liner and rebuild service in Santa Clara, with most liner replacements and partial rebuilds completed in one to two scheduled days after inspection. Every job starts with a camera-scan flue evaluation, a written price, and a documented photo record - no work begins until you have all three in hand. If you own a HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Seal system, a HeatShield Pro liner, or an older HeatShield factory-built chimney component that’s showing gaps, spalling, or draft failure, this page covers what we find and what it costs. Call (650) 229-6358 to book an inspection or bring us a competitor’s written estimate for a free second opinion.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Cerfractory Flue Seal shrinkage and delamination. The original Cerfractory coating, common in Santa Clara homes built between 1985 and 2005, was designed to resurface clay flue tiles without a full liner replacement. After 15 to 20 years of thermal cycling in our dry Santa Clara Valley climate, the ceramic layer shrinks away from the tile shoulder, creating hairline channels that vent combustion gases into the chimney wall. We camera-map every gap, then either reapply a compatible resurfacing compound or recommend a stainless steel liner if the underlying tile is too far gone.
  • HeatShield Pro flexible liner crevice corrosion at the tee connection. The Pro series uses a 316Ti stainless flex liner with a proprietary tee and cap assembly. In Santa Clara’s coastal-influenced air, the lower tee joint traps condensed flue gases where the collar meets the flex section. The result is pinhole corrosion you won’t see from the firebox - only from the camera looking up. We replace the tee with an OEM HeatShield component or a DuraFlex equivalent rated for the same BTU load, depending on parts availability and your preference.
  • Factory-built chimney chase panel water intrusion behind the siding. HeatShield’s metal chimney systems rely on a chase top with proper slope and cricket geometry to shed rain. On homes in the Northside and Rivermark areas near Santa Clara University, we’ve found chase tops installed without adequate slope pooling water against the chase panels for three or four seasons. The OSB sheathing softens, the liner support structure shifts, and the Pro liner develops stress cracks at the first offset. We rebuild the chase top with proper pitch, replace damaged sheathing, and inspect the liner for ovality before reinstallation.
  • Smoke chamber parging failure in HeatShield relined systems. When a prior installer skipped the smoke chamber parge - the sloped transition from firebox to flue - or used a generic refractory mix instead of HeatShield’s specified compound, you get turbulent draft and accelerated creosote buildup. We find this most often in homes near Central Park where a handyman or non-specialist did the original liner install. Our fix: remove the liner, parge the smoke chamber to NFPA 211 dimensions with the correct refractory material, then reinstall or replace the liner as needed.
  • Thimble and connector pipe mismatch on HeatShield gas conversions. Santa Clara homeowners converting from wood to gas sometimes inherit a HeatShield liner sized for solid fuel, with a thimble opening too large for the new gas appliance connector. The gap pulls room air, dilutes draft, and can spill CO. We measure the appliance collar and the existing thimble, then fabricate a proper reducer or replace the thimble with a HeatShield-compatible or Gelco component that seals and supports the connector correctly.

Our HeatShield Chimney Liner & Rebuild Process

Our HeatShield Chimney Liner & Rebuild Process
  1. 1
Camera-scan inspection and documentation. Corrine or one of our techs runs a chimney camera the full flue length, records video and stills of every joint, offset, and termination, and notes liner model markings where visible. You get the photo record before we discuss price.
  2. 2
Written scope and price, no exceptions. We deliver a written price with line-item costs for parts, labor, and any masonry or carpentry work, plus a written warranty term. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard - “Have it in writing” - means no verbal quotes, no “we’ll figure it out when we start.”
  3. 3
Parts decision: OEM HeatShield, DuraFlex, or Gelco equivalent. If HeatShield OEM parts are available with reasonable lead time, we quote them. If backordered or discontinued for your series, we source a DuraFlex or Gelco component with matching UL 1777 listing and thermal rating, and we document the substitution in your job record.
  4. 4
Liner replacement or rebuild execution. For full liner replacement, we remove the old liner through the top or bottom access, inspect the flue tiles or chase structure, install the new assembly with proper supports and insulation per manufacturer spec, and seal all joints. For partial rebuilds, we address only the failed section - smoke chamber, tee, or upper flue - and tie into sound existing liner.
  5. 5
Smoke test and final documentation. We pressurize the flue, verify no leakage at joints or thimble, run a draft reading with the appliance operating, and add the completion photos to your documented record. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies from this date.
  6. 6
Cleanup and walkthrough. We protect floors and furniture with drop cloths, vacuum hepa-grade, and Corrine walks you through the camera footage - what was found, what was changed, what to watch going forward. The camera doesn’t soften what it finds - and neither do I.

Why Santa Clara Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Santa Clara for HeatShield Work

We’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and a growing share of our Santa Clara calls involve HeatShield systems at or past their service life. Corrine Halstead and our crew know the difference between a Cerfractory coating that can be touched up and one that’s too far gone to trust. When HeatShield OEM parts are backordered - not uncommon for discontinued factory-built series - we pull from our Haven buying network with DuraFlex, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield materials, always matched to the original spec, always documented. Background-checked, uniformed technicians. License number on every page. A text when we’re on the way. And the 365-Day Done Right Promise stamped on every job: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
